First, let me tell you a little bit about myself.
My name is Khaliah Williams and I am a 10 year veteran of the college admission process.
My career in admissions began in 1999. I was hired as a tour guide and later senior interview when I was an undergraduate student at Sarah Lawrence College. Soon after graduation, I was hired by my alma mater as an admission counselor and later as the Director of Multicultural Recruitment. I have also worked as the Assistant Director of Admission at Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts.
Since 2003 I have been a frequent volunteer as a college counselor with College Summit, a non-profit organization which helps students from underrepresented populations achieve their college goals.
From 2007 until 2010 I took a break from college admissions to attend the Iowa Writers' Workshop where I received my MFA in Fiction Writing. While in Iowa in was fortunate to have the opportunity to teach undergraduate creative writing classes.
My fiction and non-fiction work has been published in the Hawaii Women's Journal, Frontier Psychiatrist, and most recently on the Book County Blog (a subsidiary of Penguin Books).
I currently live in Baltimore, MD where I work as a college counselor at an independent school.
My Philosophy on the college admission process is a simple one: Applying to college is a journey of self discovery. And, as we say in my office, The Process, "may not always be fair but it can be fun".
This summer I look forward to helping your rising senior discover the colleges that best fit their needs both academically and socially. Battling Writer's Block? I will guide your student as they put together stand out college essays and supplements.
Not in Baltimore? We can conduct our sessions via Skype or Google Hangout. I am also available to do in-person meetings in the NoVa/Washington DC area as well as Philadelphia, Delaware, and New York City.
Services Offered:
College Counseling
College Essay Writing
Mock Admissions Committee (for groups of students or parents)
I will also be hosting two four week creative writing courses (limit 8 students per class) for high school students in the Baltimore City area.
Classes will take place Mondays and Wednesdays from 1PM-3PM
Location: TBA
Session 1: June 23rd-July 18th
Session 2: July 28th-August 22nd
I also offer MFA manuscript consultations on a case by case basis.
I look forward to helping you through a challenging but exciting process.
